Valentines Day, a day of love and passion, and oh, also debt! Valentines Day started as a holiday to celebrate love (although the history is a bit muddy) and has transformed into a day of debt, this should not be celebrated, millions of dollars are spent on this holiday, and for what? Some relationship that might not last?

I don’t blame Greek Mythologists for this silly overt holiday, they were only doing what we do now, trying to explain this odd and confusing world, “There was a need to explain floods, sickness, love and what happened in history.”. Some of these explanations are reasonable with what they knew but others are absolutely ridiculous and lacking pretext. They explained love through the story of St.Valentine “all in the name of St. Valentine.” and his actions but love cannot be explained by some old myth “Greek mythology began thousands of years ago.”, it is felt personally and differently for everyone. Not only this but there is too much pressure, money, and time spent trying to give your loved ones this day.

Others may say that this money, time, and pressure is all worth it to show your loved ones your appreciation but you should be appreciating your loved ones everyday. Over all approximately 10 billion dollars is spent each year in the US on Valentines day, that amount is split into repasts, chocolate, flowers, jewelry, cards, etc. “nothing can replace love letters.”. If you were just to pick up something for your loved one every once in a while or took a sojourn to see them I am sure they would appreciate the idyllic effort just as much or even more to know you are thinking of them. Don’t be demure or cryptic, if you love someone just show them everyday and don’t celebrate this fruitless holiday.
